Taxi Trouble?

Erik Totten · January 13, 2009

A while back, in our fall 2008 issue, we did an article on Taxis/Cabs in Omaha - http://www.fsmomaha.com/industry/2008/9/taxi-trouble. Through letters to the editor and calls to me, we received a lot of feedback to the article, both agreeing and disagreeing, but, unfortunately, it was before we had fsmomaha.com up and going. So, since our on-line readers never had a chance to respond, I wanted to open the topic back up on our website.

The Lincoln Journal Star had an article recently about DWI arrests in Lincoln (http://journalstar.com/articles/2009/01/06/news/local/doc496397c17f477793294114.txt) and I was surprised about the number of comments, from both Omaha and Lincoln readers, that referenced the taxis/cabs, or the lack of them, being part of the problem.

So, what do all of you think? Does Omaha need more cabs out on the street? Would more cabs help reduce the number of DWIs? I’m also interested in hearing any of your experiences with cabs as we plan on covering this subject again in the near future.

The owners I have talked to say that, for the most part, they would prefer to see a free drink go out and put on a comp account rather than lose 15 oz. of liquor a day that they can’t account for.”
