Welcome to the blogs!

Welcome to Food & Spirits Magazine’s very first blog. Over the coming weeks we will be posting new blogs on a regular basis relating to all aspects of food, spirits and the industry they exist in. From recipes to wine and food pairings to insider looks at the industry, we plan to talk about all manner of food and spirits in this section of our website. We’ll also be taking a look, both from a local’s perspective and an out-of-towner’s take, on the great food and spirits scene we have here in Omaha. So, all that being said, as publisher, enjoy and let us know what you think - Either email me or comment away on and let us know. Also, for those that would like to, I’d personally like to invite all of you to blog away and send me your submissions – we’re always looking for something new.

I would love to hear from the readers some ideas for Sunday breakfast/brunch...other than the chains like Village Inn, Panera and the like. In a metro of over 800,000 there ought to be some choices for eating breakfast at 11 am on Sunday east of I-680, but darned if I am not stumped for ideas. Any ideas for anywhere within 2-3 miles of 72nd and Dodge St.? I am familiar with Louie M's Burger lust off 20th and Vinton. Some people like Leo's in Benson, but that place doesn't do much for me. The Millard Roadhouse and Bailey's out west are great, but there seems to be a dearth of decent options mid-town or downtown for people to go.

I have a few Brunch spots I'd be happy to share, and maybe we should start a separate blog on Brunch places.....Anyway, my favorite is Dixie Quicks on 20th and Leavenworth -- they're actually very good all the time but brunch, in particular, is special. I also hear that Taxi's Grill at 120th and Blondo is great and that Mia's Bongo Room in Benson does a decent spread as well. All this brunch talk has reminded me of, when I was younger and lived in the area, that the Officer's Club at Offutt put on the best brunch I've ever been a part of. As I remember it, everything under the sun was available and it was all soooo good. Erik

Taxi's does an excellent, somewhat upscale brunch. Baileys on 120th near Pacific is also quite good.
