FSM's Interview with Cat Cora

Cat Cora will host The Food Bank's 8th Annual Celebrity Chef Fundraiser on February 26th. I was able to catch up with her by phone and ask her some questions about her career in food and what makes her tick. She's a great lady - very committed and passionate - and I enjoyed having a chance to talk to her. Below is the interview. FSM: First, why did you become a chef? I’m curious as to why you became a chef versus what’s kept you being a chef?Cat: Well, you know, I grew up in ... Read More >

Of all the organizations in Omaha that touch lives with food, The Food Bank has to be the one that does it in the most profound and meaningful of ways – by giving it to people that are hungry. The Food Bank will hold their annual fundraiser on February 26th which will feature the Food Network’s Cat Cora. Tickets are still available and it’s a great cause. Below is a press release about the event and I’ll have another blog later today which will be an interview I did with the Iron Chef.   ... Read More >

Candied Fruit Peels?

If I were to blog, candied fruit and fruit peels would definitely be a topic worth noting, since blogging can take us into the itty bitty and the nitty gritty, as well as the tiny but tasty.  As a cook who dislikes paying extra for what I can do better, taking a moment to zest, slice, and candy some fruit bits can help bolster your dry pantry stocks and open up some lovely options when searching for flavor combinations in anything from baked goods to main courses.  The main reason is that citrus packs an amazing amount of ... Taxi Trouble?

A while back, in our fall 2008 issue, we did an article on Taxis/Cabs in Omaha - http://www.fsmomaha.com/industry/2008/9/taxi-trouble. Through letters to the editor and calls to me, we received a lot of feedback to the article, both agreeing and disagreeing, but, unfortunately, it was before we had fsmomaha.com up and going. So, since our on-line readers never had a chance to respond, I wanted to open the topic back up on our website. The Lincoln Journal Star had an article recently about DWI arrests in Lincoln (http://journalstar.com/articles/... The Brown Bomber at Leo's Diner

I live in Benson so many of FSM’s meetings are often held at the neighborhood restaurants, coffee shops and bars in the area. Over the time I’ve been in Benson – a little over a year and a half – Leo’s Diner has become one of my favorite places to have breakfast or lunch while chatting up a prospective client, writer, photographer, etc. It’s just my type of place, quaint and unpretentious, while still serving up some great food. They’re known for their hamburgers (they used to be known for ... Read More >
