Issue 5 of FSM hits the streets
So the new issue of Food & Spirits Magazine is on the streets and, so far, we’re receiving some excellent feedback. We made some changes to this issue, both cosmetic and in editorial, and I’d love to know what all of you folks think about the latest issue. So, if you’ve gotten your hands on one, let me know your thoughts on it – we’re always looking for ways to improve, and, of course, we salivate when we receive praise. We’ll be putting the content online (along with the first ... Read More >
A Simple Recipe for Beef & Barley Soup
I thought I would pass along this recipe (I use the term loosely) for beef & barley soup that I recently made. Although it was an incredibly simple recipe, the family (my wife, Steph, along with our kids Sylvia, 6, and Henry, 4) loved it. I made a ton of it, planning to freeze half of it, but after four days, there wasn’t any left – the most telling sign that I had success in the kitchen. I didn’t follow a recipe, or measure anything, but here’s an estimation of everything;4-5 cubes ... Read More >
I Don't Blog
Publisher's Note: Although we hear that blogging is going to be (or is) the wave of the future when it comes to media, not all of us are keen on transitioning ourselves to write them. With Food & Spirits Magazine adapting our website to accommodate blogs, I’ve also had to make adjustments in how I think about writing. After I asked Ann Summers, one of our best writers, to blog, I found out I’m not the only one. Here’s her response to my query asking her to write a blog - little did she ... Read More >
Ginger's (In)Famous White Sangria
I was commissioned (well not literally), but a little bird said that I should post a blog...and here I am. I guess the first thing that popped into my mind was my famous White Sangria...so here goes. White Sangria: A Divine Drink for All! I must admit this rainy cold weather makes me feel a little morose at times, but I do enjoy the nostalgia it brings for multi-colored sweaters, wool socks, hot cocoa, and old Gregory Peck films. But with this change of season comes a stark realization that summer is gone; no more grilling or ... Read More >
Popcorn Balls Anyone?
About a week before Halloween I began wondering why I hadn’t made popcorn balls in so long. They’re such a classic fall treat. So I decided to look up a recipe on the internet, get the ingredients, and get started. Then I remembered why it had been so long. I hate making popcorn balls. They’re not difficult to make in any sense of the word, they’re just a total pain in the ass. By the time I realized my mistake I was already too deep in. I finished making them, envisioning glorious ... Read More >
